Phil Manning
Alternative Contraband is the brain fart of Phil Manning.
With more than twenty years in Alternative radio including over 18 as Program Director, Phil brings a well-rounded perspective to Alternative radio.
Phil was PD of one of the “original 13” Alternative stations at WOXY/97X Cincinnati, a station so diverse their weekly playlist had to be faxed out on 11 ½ X 17 paper. As the format exploded in the early 90’s, Manning led Alternative Stations in Cleveland, Pittsburgh
and Los Angeles before leading Seattle’s 107.7 The End for over ten years. After two years at 91X/San Diego, Manning tried his hand at another format—adult hits. After a few years of complete boredom programming Journey songs, Manning has decided to give away everything he knows about programming alternative radio and where Alternative radio needs to go in AlternativeContraband.com.
Manning has helped launch the airplay of hundreds of bands with his forward thinking thoughts about music which helped keep his stations ahead of the pack, including programming 107.7 The End to a top 2 ratings position 18-34 adults for five straight years.
Other Manning accomplishments include:
-Program Director Rolling Stone Station Of The Year/Medium Market WOXY 1991 & 1992.
-Proud papa of hiring and working with several air talent now working in major markets.
-Creator of End Sessions and End Sessions CD series
- Negotiated filming of The Real World/Seattle at 107.7 The End, 1999.
-Multiple nominee Program Director Of The Year, FMQB.
