The Arbitron June Monthlies began rolling out Monday (August 6). The big story at Alternative radio is the continued gain of Chicago’s Q87, especially with a less than full signal. Q87 went 1.9-2.1 with persons 6+, increasing their cume from 733,000 to 820,900.
Q’s Operations Manager Jim Richards fresh off a crazy Lollapalooza weekend in Chicago said, “we got the full July book today. For the entire month, we have a 2.1 share P6+ and a weekly cume of 820,900. We’ve exceeded our expectations as we projected it could take till November to break a 2-share given the challenges with the 87.7 frequency and the complete churn of the audience from Smooth Jazz.”

Alternative had a baby Monday afternoon, birthing a new station at 98.5 FM in Greenville, South Carolina on an HD2 translator signal. The station will be called X98.5 the New Rock Alternative.
Programming the station will be Supadave Jackson. Cox VP/GM Steve Sinicropi enthused, “”When we launched 97-7 Chuck FM in the market, both advertisers and listeners gravitated toward it immediately. Our research also showed there was a Rock market in the upstate that was not being served. CMG has been so thrilled with Chuck that we wanted to expand our portfolio. Adding X 98-5 FM, the New Rock Alternative, allows us to serve our community, advertisers, and listeners with a fourth brand.”
The station’s web address is www.X985fm.com.
