Award winning consultants Jacobs Media is beginning to release information from their 8th annual Techsurvey. For the first year, Jacobs has ventured outside Alternative and Active rock to include responses from multiple formats. This year, 170 stations and 57,358 listeners participated in the study.
I had the good fortune of being involved in the first five Techsurveys. The information was so new then and had nothing to track against. Now in its eighth year, the information is incredibly in line with how people live their online lives. Alternative Contraband will get ahold of as much of the Techsurvey as we can, especially as it pertains to Alternative radio and give you the information and our analysis of it.
A few of the survey results are starting to be released. Today on their blog at www.jacobsmedia.com is discussion of the results of the survey question “reasons to listen less to Pandora“.
The top two answers are tailor made for why radio still offers an incredible product. Tied for the #1 answer at 26% was:
–Can’t skip enough songs
–Miss hearing people
Radio’s role as both taste maker and companion is woven into the social fabric of people’s everyday lives. When they get to program their own way of doing radio (Pandora being the example here), many miss the very essence of some of radio’s many strengths–gatekeeper and friend.
Continue to get the most you can out of each and every on-air break, whether it’s an attention grabbing break or an information driven break.
